Overview
HWS116 is an investigational humanized monoclonal antibody developed by Wuhan Humanwell Innovative Drug Research and Development Center (a subsidiary of Humanwell Healthcare) for the treatment of advanced solid tumors. It specifically targets Claudin 18.2 (CLDN18.2), a tight junction protein that is frequently overexpressed in various gastrointestinal malignancies, including gastric, esophageal, and pancreatic cancers, while maintaining limited expression in normal tissues. By binding to CLDN18.2 on the surface of tumor cells, HWS116 is designed to induce anti-tumor activity through immune-mediated effector functions such as antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC) and complement-dependent cytotoxicity (CDC). The drug is currently being evaluated in Phase I clinical trials (NCT07413328) as a monotherapy for patients with refractory or advanced solid tumors who have failed standard treatments.
