Hx-001 is an allogeneic, off-the-shelf hepatocyte-like cell therapy developed by HepaTx Corporation for the treatment of various liver diseases. The therapy is derived from adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ASCs) that are differentiated into functional hepatocyte-like cells using a proprietary, non-genetic modification technology licensed from Stanford University. These cells are designed to provide essential liver functions, such as ureagenesis, while also exhibiting immunomodulatory properties to mitigate inflammation. Hx-001 is being investigated for conditions including alcohol-related hepatitis, late-stage liver disease, Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (A1ATD), and Phenylketonuria (PKU). The technology is designed to be scalable and fully defined, providing a potential alternative to liver transplantation.
