HX-1171 is a novel small molecule derivative of vitamin E (specifically a hydroquinone derivative) with potent antioxidant and anti-lipid peroxidative properties. It acts primarily as an activator of the nuclear factor erythroid 2–related factor 2 (Nrf2) pathway. By activating Nrf2 and inducing its nuclear translocation and transcriptional activity, HX-1171 upregulates the expression of antioxidant enzymes such as NAD(P)H quinone dehydrogenase 1 (NQO1) and heme oxygenase 1 (HMOX1). Preclinical studies have shown that it can directly scavenge reactive oxygen species (ROS), inhibit lipid peroxidation, and exert chemopreventive effects against carcinogenesis induced by heterocyclic amines. In rodent models and cell-based assays, it has demonstrated potential benefits in conditions associated with oxidative stress including liver fibrosis, hepatic cirrhosis, cancer prevention/therapy support, and neuroprotection against L-dopa-induced neurotoxicity[2][3][4][7].
