Overview

HY-133 is a recombinant bacteriophage endolysin with bactericidal activity against Staphylococcus aureus, including methicillin-resistant strains (MRSA). It employs a chimeric design combining the CHAP domain from phage K with lysostaphin's cell wall-binding domain. The drug acts by targeting peptidoglycan in bacterial cell walls, rapidly destroying S. aureus cells within minutes while preserving the normal nasal microbiota. It is formulated as a hydrogel for nasal administration and is being developed primarily for decolonization of S. aureus in the nasal cavity to prevent infections during hospital stays and surgeries.
