Drug intelligence / Profile preview
HY209 gel is a topical investigational small molecule drug developed by Shaperon for the treatment of mild to moderate atopic dermatitis. It acts as a first-in-class G protein-coupled receptor 19 (GPCR19) agonist, which functions as an inflammasome inhibitor. By targeting GPCR19, the drug inhibits both the priming and activation phases of the inflammasome, leading to reduced serum immunoglobulin E (IgE) levels and a modulation of the T-helper cell balance by increasing TH1 cytokines and decreasing TH2 cytokines. HY209 gel is designed to offer steroid-like efficacy with a superior safety profile compared to existing treatments like JAK inhibitors or PDE4 inhibitors. It has completed Phase 2 clinical trials in South Korea and received FDA IND approval for a global Phase 2 study in 2023.
