Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Hy5 Duo is a dual-action lubricant eye drop developed and marketed by Optho Pharma for the treatment of dry eye syndrome and associated ocular irritation. It is a fixed-dose combination of sodium carboxymethylcellulose (1% w/v) and sodium hyaluronate (0.1% w/v). Sodium hyaluronate is a naturally occurring biopolymer with high water-binding capacity that acts as an effective lubricant, spreading evenly across the cornea to reduce friction and promote healing. Sodium carboxymethylcellulose is a viscosity-enhancing polymer that prolongs the residence time of the drops on the ocular surface, providing long-lasting moisture and protection. Together, these components mimic natural tears to soothe burning, itching, and grittiness caused by environmental factors or post-operative recovery.
