HY6-F9 is a monoclonal antibody developed specifically to counteract fentanyl and its analogues. This antibody binds fentanyl in serum, thereby reducing its distribution to the brain and other organs and reversing fentanyl-induced toxicity such as antinociception, respiratory depression, and bradycardia. It is able to sequester fentanyl and its metabolite norfentanyl in serum, reducing brain concentrations of fentanyl and offering prophylactic as well as therapeutic interventions for opioid overdose. HY6-F9 has been shown to be effective in animal models and works by high-affinity binding to the drug. It can be used alone or in combination with the opioid antagonist naloxone to reverse or prevent effects of fentanyl. Structural studies have elucidated the antibody's binding to fentanyl and supported the rational engineering of improved mAbs in this class[2][4][6].
