Hyaluronan-enriched embryo transfer medium is a specialized solution used in assisted reproductive technology to facilitate the implantation of embryos during in vitro fertilization (IVF). The medium contains a high concentration of hyaluronan (hyaluronic acid), a naturally occurring glycosaminoglycan that is abundant in the female reproductive tract and increases significantly during the implantation window. By mimicking the physiological environment of the uterus, the medium increases the viscosity of the transfer fluid and promotes biological adhesion between the embryo and the endometrium through the interaction of hyaluronan with CD44 receptors. Commercial formulations, such as EmbryoGlue, typically combine hyaluronan with recombinant human albumin to support embryo development and stabilization within the uterine cavity. While marketed to improve clinical pregnancy and live birth rates, recent large-scale retrospective studies have questioned its routine effectiveness across all patient populations, suggesting that its benefits may be limited or non-existent in unselected cohorts.
