Overview

Hyaluronic acid + hydroxypropylmethylcellulose is a composite hydrogel formulation that combines the properties of both polymers. The cross-linked hyaluronic acid provides stability and resistance to degradation, while hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (HPMC) fills the spaces within the cross-linked hyaluronic acid structure, creating a "fence effect" that prevents enzymes like hyaluronidase from degrading the hyaluronic acid. This combination extends the residence time of hyaluronic acid in tissues and enhances the overall stability and biocompatibility of the formulation. The composite has applications in dermal fillers, ocular drug delivery, and wound healing.
