Overview

Hyaluronyl carnosine amide (FID-136) is a novel semi-synthetic bioconjugate developed by Fidia Farmaceutici in collaboration with the Italian National Research Council (CNR). It consists of hyaluronic acid (HA) covalently linked to carnosine (β-alanyl-L-histidine) via an amide bond. This conjugation protects carnosine from rapid degradation by serum carnosinase, facilitating a slow-release mechanism and improving its bioavailability at target sites. The compound exhibits antioxidant, metal-chelating (particularly copper), and tissue-repair properties. It is currently being investigated in Phase I clinical trials as an oral solution for its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics in healthy volunteers, with potential applications in conditions involving oxidative stress and impaired tissue healing.
