Hyase is a pharmaceutical preparation of hyaluronidase, specifically an enzyme purified from ovine (sheep) testes. It functions by catalyzing the hydrolysis of hyaluronan (hyaluronic acid), a major polysaccharide component of the interstitial barrier in connective tissues. By depolymerizing hyaluronan, Hyase temporarily and reversibly reduces the viscosity of the extracellular matrix, thereby increasing tissue permeability and facilitating the "spreading" of locally injected substances. Clinically, it is primarily indicated as an adjuvant to increase the absorption and dispersion of other injected drugs, such as local anesthetics, and to enable the administration of large volumes of fluids via hypodermoclysis. Additionally, it is used to promote the resorption of excess fluids and extravasated blood or medications in the subcutaneous tissue.
