Overview

Hyate:C is a highly purified, plasma-derived porcine Factor VIII (antihemophilic factor) concentrate. It was specifically developed for the treatment of patients with Hemophilia A who have developed inhibitors (neutralizing antibodies) against human Factor VIII. Because porcine Factor VIII has low cross-reactivity with human Factor VIII inhibitors, it can effectively bypass neutralization and restore the coagulation cascade. Within the cascade, Factor VIII acts as a critical cofactor for Factor IXa, facilitating the activation of Factor X, which ultimately leads to fibrin clot formation. Originally developed by Speywood Pharmaceuticals and later managed by Ipsen, Hyate:C was a mainstay for inhibitor management before being largely superseded by recombinant porcine products and other bypassing agents. It was discontinued in the early 2000s due to manufacturing challenges and the shift toward recombinant therapies.
