Hybenx

Hybenx is a topical desiccant and oral tissue decontaminant primarily used in dentistry and wound care. Developed by **EPIEN Medical**, it consists of a concentrated aqueous mixture of sulfonated aromatics (37% hydroxybenzenesulfonic acid and 23% hydroxymethoxybenzene acids) and 28% sulfuric acid. Its mechanism of action is based on its molecular hygroscopic (desiccant) properties; upon application, it rapidly absorbs free and electrostatically bonded water from organic materials. This process instantly denatures the molecular structure of biofilms and necrotic tissue, causing them to detach from surfaces like tooth structures or wound beds. In dentistry, it is used as an adjunct to scaling and root planing for periodontitis, to decontaminate implant surfaces in peri-implantitis, and as a root canal cleanser/hemostatic agent in endodontics. It is also explored for treating oral aphthae and chronic cutaneous wounds.
