hybutimibe + atorvastatin

Hybutimibe + atorvastatin is a fixed-dose combination (FDC) medication developed by Zhejiang Hisun Pharmaceutical for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia and hyperlipidemia. It combines hybutimibe, a novel Class 1.1 innovative cholesterol absorption inhibitor, with atorvastatin, a well-established HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin). Hybutimibe works by selectively inhibiting the Niemann-Pick C1-Like 1 (NPC1L1) transport protein in the brush border of the small intestine, thereby reducing the absorption of biliary and dietary cholesterol. Atorvastatin reduces hepatic cholesterol synthesis by inhibiting the rate-limiting enzyme HMG-CoA reductase. This dual mechanism of action provides a synergistic effect in lowering low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels. The combination was approved by the China National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) in January 2024.
