Overview

Hydrazine sulfate is a hazardous, colorless liquid with an ammonia-like odor that has been used industrially and investigated as a medicine. It has been studied primarily for its potential use in cancer treatment and for managing cancer-related cachexia (weight loss and muscle wasting). The proposed mechanisms of action include inhibition of gluconeogenesis via phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase inhibition—thereby reducing glucose supply to tumors—and inhibition of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), which may help prevent muscle breakdown and anorexia in cancer patients. Despite these hypotheses, clinical studies have not demonstrated significant benefit in treating cancer or improving quality of life or survival. Hydrazine sulfate is not approved by the FDA for any medical condition but is sometimes marketed as a dietary supplement. Its use carries significant safety risks including liver damage, seizures, coma, and death[1][3][4][5][6].
