Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lotak H Tablet is a fixed-dose combination antihypertensive medication containing the angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) losartan potassium (50 mg) and the thiazide diuretic hydrochlorothiazide (12.5 mg). Developed and marketed by Caplet India, it is indicated for the management of hypertension (high blood pressure) in patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled by monotherapy. Losartan works by selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor, thereby promoting vasodilation and reducing peripheral vascular resistance. Hydrochlorothiazide acts on the distal convoluted tubule of the kidney to inhibit sodium and chloride reabsorption, promoting diuresis and natriuresis to reduce blood volume. Together, these two active ingredients work synergistically to lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of cardiovascular events such as stroke and myocardial infarction.
