Overview

ABT-712 (Vicodin CR) is an extended-release, fixed-dose combination oral tablet developed by Abbott Laboratories (now AbbVie). It contains hydrocodone bitartrate, a mu-opioid receptor agonist, and acetaminophen, a non-opioid analgesic and antipyretic that acts as a cyclooxygenase inhibitor. The formulation was designed to provide sustained pain relief for acute and chronic conditions, including post-surgical pain (e.g., dental extraction, bunionectomy) and chronic low back pain or osteoarthritis. Clinical development reached Phase 3, but the product was ultimately discontinued and did not receive regulatory approval.
