Overview
Dolocodona is a fixed-dose combination of the opioid analgesic hydrocodone (specifically hydrocodone bitartrate) and the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) ibuprofen. It is indicated for the short-term management of acute, moderate to severe pain when alternative treatments are inadequate. Hydrocodone acts as an agonist at mu-type opioid receptors in the central nervous system to alter the perception of and emotional response to pain. Ibuprofen acts by inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2), thereby reducing the synthesis of inflammatory prostaglandins. Together, these components provide synergistic analgesic effects. Dolocodona is marketed in Colombia by Humax Pharmaceutical.
