Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tusicof is a prescription combination pharmaceutical product developed by Kramer Novis, containing hydrocodone bitartrate and chlorpheniramine maleate. Hydrocodone bitartrate is an opioid antitussive that suppresses the cough reflex by acting directly on the cough center in the medulla of the brain. Chlorpheniramine maleate is a first-generation alkylamine antihistamine that provides relief from symptoms such as sneezing, rhinorrhea, and lacrimation by competitively antagonizing H1 histamine receptors. Tusicof is indicated for the symptomatic relief of cough and upper respiratory symptoms associated with the common cold or allergic rhinitis in adults and pediatric patients aged 6 years and older. It is formulated as an oral suspension for immediate release.
