Hydrocortisone + polymyxin b sulfate + bacitracin zinc + neomycin sulfate is a marketed ophthalmic combination drug consisting of a corticosteroid plus three antibacterial agents, formulated as an ophthalmic ointment for steroid-responsive inflammatory ocular conditions when bacterial infection is present or there is a significant risk of infection. Hydrocortisone provides local anti-inflammatory activity through glucocorticoid receptor signaling, while neomycin and polymyxin B provide broad antibacterial coverage against susceptible gram-positive and gram-negative ocular pathogens and bacitracin adds activity particularly against susceptible gram-positive bacteria.
