Drug intelligence / Profile preview
HC45 Cream is a topical corticosteroid product containing the active ingredient **hydrocortisone acetate** at a concentration of 1.0% w/w. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of mild to moderate atopic eczema, allergic and irritant contact dermatitis, insect bite reactions, and other minor inflammatory skin conditions. The drug acts by binding to and activating the **glucocorticoid receptor**, which modulates gene expression to suppress the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and mediators, thereby reducing redness, itching, and swelling. Originally developed by **Stiefel Laboratories** (now a subsidiary of **GSK**), HC45 Cream is available over-the-counter in the United Kingdom and has been utilized as an active comparator in clinical trials evaluating novel therapies for atopic dermatitis.
