Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Hydrocortisone butyrate is a potent topical corticosteroid used to treat inflammatory and pruritic skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis, eczema, seborrheic dermatitis, and other corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses. It works by inducing the production of inhibitory proteins called lipocortins that control the biosynthesis of inflammatory mediators like prostaglandins and leukotrienes through inhibition of arachidonic acid release. This reduces redness, itching, swelling, and discomfort associated with these skin conditions. Hydrocortisone butyrate is available in various topical forms including cream, ointment, lotion (emulsion), solution, and scalp lotion[1][3][8].
