Hydrocortisone butyrate + mupirocin is a topical combination therapy consisting of a synthetic corticosteroid (hydrocortisone butyrate) and an antibiotic (mupirocin). Hydrocortisone butyrate acts as an anti-inflammatory agent by binding to glucocorticoid receptors, reducing redness, itching, swelling, and other symptoms associated with inflammatory skin conditions. Mupirocin is an antibacterial agent that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to bacterial isoleucyl-tRNA synthetase, effectively stopping the growth of susceptible bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus. This combination is used primarily for the treatment of mild to moderate atopic dermatitis or eczema in patients where secondary bacterial infection or colonization (especially with S. aureus) is suspected or confirmed. The combination has been shown to be safe and effective in infants and children for short-term use[1][3].
