hydrocortisone probutate

Hydrocortisone probutate is a synthetic corticosteroid used topically for the relief of inflammatory and pruritic manifestations of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses in adults. It acts as an anti-inflammatory and anti-pruritic agent by binding to cytosolic glucocorticoid receptor. The receptor-ligand complex translocates to the cell nucleus where it modulates gene expression by binding to glucocorticoid response elements (GREs), leading to increased synthesis of anti-inflammatory proteins such as lipocortin-1 (annexin-1) and inhibition of phospholipase A2 activity. This results in reduced production of pro-inflammatory mediators like prostaglandins and leukotrienes[3][4][5]. Hydrocortisone probutate is available only by prescription.
