Hydrocyn Aqua

Hydrocyn Aqua is an electroactivated super-oxidized solution (SOS) primarily composed of hypochlorous acid (HOCl), which is a substance naturally produced by human immune cells to combat infections. It is utilized as an antimicrobial wound cleanser and irrigation solution for both topical and internal applications, such as peritoneal lavage. The drug's mechanism of action involves the induction of osmotic shock and oxidative damage to microbial pathogens; HOCl penetrates the microbial cell wall and membrane, leading to the denaturation of essential proteins and lipids, which causes the bacterial cell to burst. Hydrocyn Aqua is effective against a broad spectrum of microorganisms, including gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria (such as MRSA), fungi, and spores, while remaining biocompatible and non-toxic to human multicellular tissues. In clinical research led by Hospital Queen Elizabeth in Malaysia, the solution was evaluated for its efficacy in reducing surgical site infections (SSI) following open appendicectomy for perforated appendicitis.
