Drug intelligence / Profile preview
HydroEye is an oral nutritional supplement specifically formulated to alleviate the signs and symptoms of dry eye disease (DED) and meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD). Developed by ScienceBased Health, it contains a proprietary blend of omega fatty acids, including gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) from black currant seed oil, and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) from USP-verified fish oil. The supplement is designed to modulate the body's inflammatory response through multiple pathways, specifically targeting ocular surface inflammation. Clinical trials, including a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study (NCT00883649), have demonstrated its efficacy in improving Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) scores and reducing inflammatory biomarkers such as HLA-DR and CD11c on the conjunctiva. It is frequently utilized as a long-term maintenance therapy and as a preoperative intervention to normalize the ocular surface before refractive or cataract surgery.
