Hydrofera Blue

Hydrofera Blue is an antibacterial wound dressing medical device composed of a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) or polyurethane foam impregnated with two organic pigments: methylene blue and gentian violet. These agents provide broad-spectrum antimicrobial and antifungal protection against pathogens such as MRSA, VRE, and *Candida*. The dressing operates through a capillary wicking action that actively pulls exudate, debris, and bacteria away from the wound bed into the foam, maintaining a moist environment conducive to healing. It is indicated for a wide range of wounds, including pressure ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, venous stasis ulcers, arterial ulcers, superficial burns, and post-surgical incisions. Originally cleared by the FDA in 2003, it is manufactured by Hollister Wound Care.
