Hydrogen-Rich Celsior is a modified organ preservation solution based on the standard Celsior formulation, which is widely used for hypothermic flushing and storage of organs (notably hearts, livers, and kidneys) during transplantation. The modification involves enriching the solution with molecular hydrogen (H2), leveraging hydrogen's antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and cytoprotective properties to improve graft viability and reduce ischemia-reperfusion injury during cold storage. Preclinical studies indicate that supplementing preservation solutions with hydrogen can significantly attenuate inflammatory responses (such as neutrophil infiltration and pro-inflammatory cytokine expression), reduce myocardial injury markers after reperfusion, preserve mitochondrial function, and increase ATP content in stored grafts. Clinical trials are ongoing to assess whether Hydrogen-Rich Celsior improves outcomes in aging donor liver/kidney transplantation by enhancing graft quality[1][7]. The mechanism of action centers on molecular hydrogen's ability to scavenge reactive oxygen species (ROS) generated during ischemia-reperfusion events.
