Drug intelligence / Profile preview
HydroLenz is a novel hydrogel-based formulation developed by PromiSight for the prevention of cataracts following pars plana vitrectomy. During vitrectomy, the removal of the vitreous humor often leads to increased oxygen tension or other physiological changes that cause the natural lens to become opaque. HydroLenz is administered as an intraocular injection at the conclusion of the surgical procedure to serve as a protectant for the lens. The goal of this therapy is to maintain lens clarity and preclude the need for subsequent cataract surgery and intraocular lens replacement. It is currently being evaluated in a Phase 1 clinical trial to assess safety and preliminary efficacy in humans.
