Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Hydros is a clinical-stage, single-injection intra-articular viscosupplement developed by Carbylan Therapeutics for the treatment of pain associated with osteoarthritis of the knee. It consists of a bioresorbable, chemically cross-linked hyaluronic acid-based hydrogel suspended in a hyaluronic acid solution. Hydros is designed to restore the viscoelastic properties of the synovial fluid, providing mechanical cushioning and lubrication to the joint to relieve pain and improve mobility. Although evaluated in Phase 2 and Phase 3 clinical trials, further development of Hydros and its corticosteroid-loaded counterpart, Hydros-TA, was suspended in 2016 following mixed Phase 3 results.
