HydroVax-001 is an investigational inactivated vaccine candidate developed to prevent infection by West Nile virus (WNV). It consists of a hydrogen peroxide-inactivated, whole virion of the WNV-Kunjin strain, adjuvanted with aluminum hydroxide. The vaccine is administered intramuscularly and was designed using a novel hydrogen peroxide-based process that inactivates the virus while preserving key surface structures necessary for immune recognition. In phase 1 clinical trials, HydroVax-001 demonstrated a favorable safety profile and modest immunogenicity at both 1 mcg and 4 mcg doses. The primary mechanism of action is induction of an immune response against WNV antigens to generate protective neutralizing antibodies[1][2][6].
