Overview
HydroWrap is an advanced, biocompatible hydrogel-based drug delivery system designed to address impaired fracture healing in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). It functions as a smart hydrogen sulfide (H2S) delivery controller that modulates macrophage senescence within the compromised bone microenvironment. The system features a dual-responsive mechanism: it undergoes thermal contraction under near-infrared (NIR) irradiation to trigger rapid H2S release and provides sustained, glucose-responsive H2S generation in hyperglycemic conditions. By restoring H2S levels, HydroWrap alleviates mitochondrial dysfunction, suppresses senescence-associated secretory phenotypes (SASP), and promotes mitophagy, thereby interrupting the senescence cascade and enhancing bone quality and recovery time.
