Overview

Hydroxocobalamin + butyrate is a combination of two agents: hydroxocobalamin, a synthetic form of vitamin B12, and butyrate, a short-chain fatty acid. Hydroxocobalamin acts as an essential cofactor in DNA synthesis and cellular metabolism and is used to treat vitamin B12 deficiency, pernicious anemia, and cyanide poisoning. Butyrate serves as an energy source for colonocytes and has anti-inflammatory properties in the gut. This combination has been studied for its potential to reduce intestinal inflammation (as measured by calprotectin) in conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease or other gastrointestinal disorders[1][2]. The mechanism involves supporting cellular metabolism (hydroxocobalamin) and modulating gut inflammation (butyrate).
