Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Hydroxycamptothecin (also known as 10-hydroxycamptothecin or HCPT) is a natural quinoline alkaloid isolated from the Chinese tree *Camptotheca acuminata*. It is a potent antineoplastic agent that acts as a DNA topoisomerase I inhibitor. By stabilizing the covalent topoisomerase I-DNA cleavable complex, hydroxycamptothecin prevents DNA religation, leading to lethal double-strand DNA breaks during replication and transcription, which ultimately triggers cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. In China, hydroxycamptothecin injection is approved for the treatment of various malignancies, including primary liver cancer, gastric cancer, bladder cancer, rectal cancer, and head and neck cancer. Harbin Medisan Pharmaceutical is one of the key manufacturers and developers of this approved formulation.
