Overview
This therapeutic regimen, evaluated by the International Brain Research Foundation, is a multi-component combination therapy for the treatment and prevention of COVID-19. It consists of the antimalarial drug hydroxychloroquine, the antibiotic azithromycin, and a suite of dietary supplements including elemental zinc, vitamin C, vitamin D3, n-acetylcysteine, elderberry, and quercetin. The regimen was designed to leverage the hypothesized antiviral and immunomodulatory effects of hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin, alongside the immune-supporting and antioxidant properties of the supplements. Specifically, zinc was included for its potential to inhibit viral replication, while quercetin was intended to act as a zinc ionophore. The regimen was studied in a Phase 1 clinical trial to assess safety and efficacy in reducing the severity of COVID-19 symptoms and preventing infection.
