This combination therapy is being evaluated by Assiut University as a preventative treatment for preeclampsia in pregnant women with a history of the condition. The regimen consists of hydroxychloroquine, a small molecule antimalarial and immunomodulatory agent, administered alongside standard-of-care low-dose aspirin and folic acid.
