Overview

This investigational combination therapy, developed by ScandiBio Therapeutics AB, pairs the antimalarial drug hydroxychloroquine with a specific regimen of metabolic cofactors known as Combined Metabolic Cofactors Supplementation (CMCS). The CMCS component consists of four dietary supplements: N-acetylcysteine (NAC), L-carnitine tartrate, nicotinamide riboside, and L-serine. This combination is designed to act synergistically to support mitochondrial function, enhance NAD+ biosynthesis, and bolster antioxidant defenses through glutathione maintenance, thereby mitigating the metabolic stress and inflammatory response associated with COVID-19. In a Phase 2/3 clinical trial (NCT04573153), patients treated with this combination showed a significant reduction in recovery time compared to those receiving hydroxychloroquine alone.
