Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This combination therapeutic regimen was developed by ProgenaBiome for the prophylaxis of COVID-19. It consists of the antimalarial and immunomodulatory drug hydroxychloroquine administered alongside dietary supplements including vitamin C (ascorbic acid), vitamin D (cholecalciferol), and zinc. Hydroxychloroquine is hypothesized to interfere with SARS-CoV-2 viral entry and replication by increasing endosomal pH and inhibiting Toll-like receptor signaling. Zinc is included for its potential to inhibit viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerase activity, while vitamins C and D are intended to support host immune function and provide antioxidant protection. The regimen was evaluated in a Phase IIa clinical trial (NCT04334512) specifically targeting healthcare workers and individuals with high-risk exposure to the virus.
