**hydroxychloroquine liposomal** (also known as TLC19 or ISPM19) is an inhalable liposomal formulation of the antimalarial and immunomodulatory drug hydroxychloroquine. Developed by Taiwan Liposome Company (TLC) and its subsidiary InspirMed, it is designed to deliver hydroxychloroquine directly to the respiratory tract and lungs via inhalation. This targeted delivery achieves high therapeutic concentrations in the lungs while minimizing systemic exposure, thereby reducing the risk of dose-limiting toxicities such as cardiotoxicity. It has been investigated in Phase I clinical trials for the treatment and prophylaxis of COVID-19. Additionally, academic researchers (including the BC Cancer Agency and the University of British Columbia) have explored liposomal hydroxychloroquine formulations for other indications, such as inhibiting cytoprotective autophagy in breast cancer (in combination with autophagy-inducing drugs like gefitinib) and treating acute lung injury.
