Hydroxynitrone (also known by the code name F271) is a small molecule nitrone derivative developed by Shanghai Ruixing Gene Technology, a subsidiary of GNI Group. It is primarily being investigated for the treatment of liver fibrosis associated with chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. As a nitrone compound, it functions as a reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenger, aimed at reducing oxidative stress-induced liver damage and subsequent fibrogenesis. The drug has undergone Phase I clinical evaluation in China, including pharmacokinetic and safety studies in healthy volunteers, to support its development as a potential therapy for chronic liver diseases.
