Overview

Hydroxypropyltetrahydropyrantriol, widely known by the trade name **Pro-Xylane**, is a C-glycoside derivative developed by L'Oréal. It is a sugar-protein hybrid derived from xylose, a natural sugar found in beech trees. Primarily used in anti-aging skincare formulations, it acts by stimulating the biosynthesis of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), such as hyaluronic acid and heparan sulfate, within the extracellular matrix of the dermis and epidermis. By increasing GAG production, it enhances the skin's moisture-retaining capacity and structural integrity, which helps to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and improve skin barrier function. It has been investigated in clinical settings for its ability to restore skin barrier kinetics in elderly subjects.
