Overview

This is a combination of two small molecule drugs, hydroxyurea and montelukast. Hydroxyurea is an antimetabolite used primarily to treat chronic myeloid leukemia, certain head and neck cancers, and to reduce the frequency of painful crises in sickle cell anemia by increasing fetal hemoglobin production and reducing sickling of red blood cells[3][5]. Montelukast is a leukotriene receptor antagonist indicated for asthma maintenance therapy, prevention of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction, and treatment of allergic rhinitis; it works by blocking leukotriene D4 at the cysteinyl leukotriene receptor in the lungs and bronchial tubes, reducing inflammation and bronchoconstriction[4]. There is no evidence that this specific combination has a unique brand name or has been developed as a fixed-dose product; rather, both drugs may be co-administered in clinical practice for patients with overlapping indications (e.g., sickle cell disease with asthma/allergic symptoms)[1].
