Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Hymenaea courbaril wine-like extract, locally known as "Selva," is a naturally occurring brownish, wine-like botanical extract derived from the *Hymenaea courbaril* tree, which is highly valued in Brazilian traditional medicine. It is traditionally consumed as a general tonic to improve endurance, relieve fatigue, and promote sexual vigor. Preclinical studies in mice demonstrate that the extract exerts significant antifatigue-like effects by increasing active task duration, enhancing systemic antioxidant defenses, reducing lipid peroxidation, attenuating lactate accumulation, and preserving muscle glycogen. These effects are primarily mediated through redox modulation and metabolic preservation, with bioactive isolates such as procyanidins contributing to its therapeutic profile.
