Hyoscine butylbromide + mefenamic acid is a combination of a muscarinic antagonist and a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). Hyoscine butylbromide (also known as scopolamine butylbromide) is a quaternary ammonium derivative that acts as a competitive antagonist at muscarinic acetylcholine receptors; it is primarily used as an antispasmodic to treat gastrointestinal and genitourinary spasms. Mefenamic acid is an anthranilic acid derivative NSAID that inhibits cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), thereby reducing prostaglandin synthesis to provide analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. Although this combination is commonly marketed in oral formulations for abdominal pain (e.g., Buscopan Plus), its identification as a topical ophthalmic product from Jainson Biotech (under the brand name Hybrom MF) appears to be a mis-identification of the actual ingredients, which are typically bromfenac and moxifloxacin.
