**HyperAcute-Renal** is an investigational, allogeneic whole-cell cancer vaccine developed by NewLink Genetics for metastatic renal cell carcinoma. The product comprises two renal cell carcinoma cell lines genetically engineered to express murine alpha-1,3-galactosyltransferase, producing alpha-gal carbohydrate epitopes on the vaccine cells. Pre-existing human anti-alpha-gal immunity is intended to produce rapid immune recognition and destruction of the injected cells, promote uptake of renal tumor antigens, and stimulate a broader antitumor immune response against renal cell carcinoma. It was evaluated by intradermal administration in a completed Phase 1 dose-escalation study in refractory metastatic renal cell carcinoma.
