Overview
This investigational oral immunotherapeutic consists of hyperimmune bovine colostrum (HBC) containing polyclonal antibodies directed against Clostridium difficile. Developed by the Hadassah Medical Organization, the product is derived from the colostrum of pregnant cows immunized with C. difficile toxoids or recombinant toxins. Its primary mechanism involves the neutralization of C. difficile virulence factors, specifically toxins A (TcdA) and B (TcdB), as well as targeting spores and vegetative cells within the gastrointestinal tract. It is being evaluated for the prevention of Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea (CDAD), including the prevention of recurrence in infected patients and new infections in hospital contacts, without disrupting the host's normal gut microbiome.
