Overview

Hyperimmune caprine serum against HIV lysate is a biologic product derived from the blood of goats that have been immunized with detergent-inactivated HIV viral lysate. The resulting serum contains high levels of polyclonal anti-HIV antibodies (immunoglobulins) and various small molecular weight proteins, including cytokines such as IL-4 and IL-10, proopiomelanocortin, arginine vasopressin, β-endorphin, corticotropin-releasing factor (CRH), α-2 macroglobulin (α-2M), and lipoprotein-related peptide-1 complex[3][2]. The primary mechanism is believed to be immunomodulation through modulation of cytokine activity—particularly increasing or modulating IL-10—and direct neutralization or opsonization of HIV particles via the polyclonal antibodies[1][3]. It has been investigated for use in autoimmune diseases such as diffuse cutaneous systemic sclerosis (dcSSc), multiple sclerosis, and chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy[2][3]. Its precise mechanism remains incompletely understood but includes both immune modulation and possible sodium channel opening effects in neural tissues[2].
