Overview

Hyperimmune intravenous immunoglobulin (H-IVIG) is a specialized biological product derived from the convalescent plasma of donors who have recovered from H1N1 2009 influenza A infection. Developed and evaluated by The University of Hong Kong, H-IVIG contains high titers of neutralizing antibodies specifically targeting the H1N1 virus. The therapeutic approach involves passive immunization, where the infusion of these antibodies aims to neutralize the virus, reduce viral load, and mitigate the severe inflammatory response associated with critical influenza infections. In clinical trials, it was investigated for its potential to decrease mortality and shorten the length of stay in intensive care units for adult patients with severe H1N1 2009 infection requiring respiratory support.
