Overview

Hypidone is an investigational small molecule antidepressant developed primarily for the treatment of major depressive disorder. It acts as a highly selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SERT inhibitor), a potent partial agonist at the 5-HT1A receptor, and a full agonist at the 5-HT6 receptor. Additionally, recent studies indicate it is also a sigma-1 receptor agonist. Hypidone demonstrates rapid-onset antidepressant effects in preclinical models and has shown anxiolytic-like and procognitive properties. Its mechanism involves increasing synaptic serotonin levels and modulating neuroplasticity through upregulation of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and synaptic proteins in the prefrontal cortex[2][3][5][8][10]. The drug is being developed as its hydrochloride salt.
