HypoCat

HypoCat is a veterinary vaccine designed to neutralize the major cat allergen, Fel d 1, within the cat itself to reduce allergic reactions in humans. Developed by Saiba Animal Health, the vaccine utilizes a virus-like particle (VLP) platform derived from the cucumber mosaic virus (CuMV-tt) which is coupled with the recombinant Fel d 1 protein. Upon subcutaneous administration, the vaccine induces the cat's immune system to produce specific neutralizing antibodies against its own Fel d 1 protein. These antibodies bind to the allergen in the cat's secretions, such as saliva and lacrimal fluid, significantly reducing the amount of active Fel d 1 shed into the environment. This innovative approach aims to alleviate symptoms for cat-allergic individuals without requiring them to take medication or rehome their pets.
